This is frankly "stolen" from Senator Sambril, but so good I could not resist. Send the cops at me 8)
The relationship between rating and storage is not always 1 for 1

Droid Armor, Item Storage and Data Storage can be stacked to produce a higher rating. The following is a chart of how all stackable modules relate to each other:

Code: Select all

Module Armor
Level Rating Items Data Eff
| 1 | 1 - 2 | 1 | 20 | 1000 |
| 2 | 3 - 4 | 2 | 40 | 2000 |
| 3 | 5 - 6 | 4 | 70 | 3000 |
| 4 | 7 - 8 | 6 | 110 | 4000 |
| 5 | 9 - 10 | 8 | 125 | 5000 |
| 6 | 11 + | 10 | 150 | 6000 |
The next part is for storage modules only

Code: Select all

| 7 | 13 - 15 | 10 |
| - | 16 - 20 | 15 |
| - | 21 - 25 | 20 |
| - | 26 - 29 | 25 |
| - | 30+ | 30 |
Power droids can only take one module and the most item storage you can get from a single module is 10 - use a single level 6.
Notice the cap for a level 7 module and the last sentence!!!

Just to add to this, if you experiment module levels 1 to 5 up to cap you can get them to act as a module of 1 level up (the rating range is actually 1 higher on the top end). It is generally not worth it as you would saving a few low quality resources at the expensive of using higher quality ones, and in the case of astromechs it is the effective level of the module that determines the certification level.

Thanks Sambril,
Yes, this is why the new "quality level"* of these modules are tagged as "mixed", use stacked LQ versions to achieve higher levels, or use one HQ to achieve one level up.

* Quality level is a field at the schematic pages at SWGCraft which is new since July, see for example Module - Droid Item Storage 1
